Nerd Night!!!

The next Nerd Night is THIS THURSDAY March 25,2010
TAP room
7pm presentations
6:45 nice slice pizza

Nerd Night is a chance for students, staff, and faculty to share their work. Based on a Japanese program, “pecha kucha”, presenters discussion 20 slides, 20 seconds a slide., quick and dirty. It’s a fun way to get together and learn about what other RISD people are doing, working on, dreaming of, and and thinking about. A community event infused with the feeling of a live performance, each Nerd Night features ten members of the RISD community including students, faculty, and staff.
Oh, and free food!

FIRST 2010 General Meeting

We will discus upcoming events, planning and your interests. Please bring any ideas for events you may have… ooh and don’t forget to bring a friend. And yes, we will give you something to eat from Nice Slice.

Things we are planning/brainstorming so far:
- RISD ::: NERD NIGHT ‘10 vol.2 & 3
- Spring Break Habitat for Humanity
- An “Iron Chef” style make-anything-challenge with a secret material (in partnership with Second Life)
- A month long exhibit on sustainability along with a series of lectures and discussions.

What a BASH!
Nerd Night is back in a big way!

“Awesome” raves one reviewer!
Last night’s Nerd Night was a smashing success indeed. With attendance tipping 100+ students, faculty, staff; alumni, grads and undergrads there was a great range of interest groups and excitement for the presentations.

There was a lot shared; here are some of the highlights.
Devon Miller LDAR’10 told us about the upcoming events of the RISD demo garden: there will be a screening of Food Inc. next Wednesday 7pm and a meeting Thursday 5-7pm in the Nature Lab. Check out their new website at risddemogarden.blogspot.com and look forward to spring seed bomb workshops!

We learned about McRAD- RISD Metcalf, Catering, Retail and Dining whom C.A.R.E.S. about greening their products and services- like new eco-friendly spray fixatives. They are having a drop-in and decorate event this Saturday from 1-4pm in the Met where you can frost cookies that will be donated to the children at the RI food bank.

There was great food courtesy of Nice Slice; music thanks to our DJ; and a light show- thanks to the Tap room. We have tentatively planned two more Nerd Nights for March and April; if you are interested in presenting email us at info (at) respond-design (dot) org! And to those who signed up for the mailing list- we’ll talk to you soon!

Respond|Design’s acclaimed Nerd Night event… we are back!

Respond|Design is a forum to promote social and environmental responsibility at RISD.
We work with students and administrators, in development and implementation of sustainability methods and goals.
